Genre Analysis : Written Review
A happy new year!!!
Did you have a good winter vacation? I was eating a lot of mochi and osechi!
Today, I will analyze an review of the restaurant, The Providores.
Here is the URL of the review.
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/reviews/the-providores-restaurant-review-there-seem-to-be-eight-elements-to-each-main--and-thats-before-the-salt-and-pepper-9815178.html
Analyzing the written review:
*Does the reviewer show any special "insider" knowledge of the chefs or the restaurant's plans for the future?
Yes, he does.he wrote about the history of the founder, but he did not write about the plans for the future.
*What is the writing style of the review (flowery language, simple and "to the point," pretentious)?
The writing style is flowery language.
*From the type of restaurant being reviewed and from the style of writing, what would you guess about the readers of this newspaper?
I guess the readers are common people like us, because the cost of the meals are a little bit high for me, and the writer also explained that they costed a little bit high.
*Does the review include a convenient grid so that the reader can see, at a glance, such facts as the restaurant's location, the price range of menu items, wheelchair accessibility, etc.?
He wrote about the detail of the restaurant's location and the atmosphere inside the restaurant.
*What additional information can you find out about the restaurant from its Website? Does anything on the Website contradict what's written in the review? If so, describe it.
It doesn't contradict its website, but website has additional information that the restaurant is particular about wine.
*What did you learn about the values of the reviewer and cultural values through this review?
He often mentioned each price and quality, and he often judged whether it is worth paying the price, so the quality for the price is important for him.
*Based on the review, would you and your partner like to try this restaurant? Why or why not?
I want to try the restaurant because the meals there includes many ingredients that I have never heard. And also the restaurant has many Japanese foods, so I want to try them to know how the Japanese foods eaten in foreign countries taste like.
